Share UF/IFAS Extension workshop - Introduction to Florida Food Entrepreneurship - 2019 (St. Augustine)

Event Details

This workshop is intended to provide the audience with general information on food safety and quality, basic food science, business planning, and federal and state regulatory requirements for food business. The target audience is anyone who is interested in running his/her own food business in Florida. This workshop is specifically for somone who is planning commercial production. If you are interested in home-based food business, please look for UF/IFAS Cottage Food Operation Workshop (https://uf-ifas-cottage-pasco2019.eventbrite.com).

First day will focus on general requirements for Florida food business, and the second day program covers a new curriculum entirely focused on developing food safety plan based on Preventive Control for Human Food Rule under the Food Safety Modernization Act of 2011.

The registration fee for the 2-day course is $200 (If registered by May 5th, the fee will be $150). You could also attend a single day (either day 1 or day 2). The fee for a single-day course is $125 (if registered by May 5th, the feel will be $100). Registration includes course materials, lunch, coffee breaks and certificate of completion.  Please register by May 17th. Due to the room capacity, the class size will be limited to the first 30 registrants.

UF/IFAS Extension

Dr. Soo Ahn, the director of UF/IFAS Food Entrepreneurship Extension Program, is Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist in Food Science and Human Nutrition Department at UF/IFAS. She received her Ph.D. in Food Science from Cornell University in 2003. Dr. Ahn joined in UF/IFAS in Dec 2011. She has been active in the field of food safety with expertise in foodborne pathogen detection. Her extension focus is developing Food Entrepreneurship Program for Floridians, especially small-sized growers and processors including cottage food operators. She is a member of several scientific societies including Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) and International Association for Food Protection (IAFP).
