Description

Join us and participate in the first annual Alumni Day of Service!

What is the Day of Service?

No Matter Where You Are...
No Matter What Your Passion...
Together Gauchos Give Back and Make the World a Better Place!

On February 24, 2018, we want to unite all Gauchos throughout the United States, and the world to participate in a day of giving back to your community. We encourage you to find a volunteer opportunity in your area that is meaningful to you and spend anywhere from one to a few hours giving back.

Register here and tell us what act of service you will participate in on February 24th and we'll send you a Gauchos Give Back t-shirt to wear on the day. Post a picture of yourself wearing your t-shirt on social media using the hashtag #GauchosGiveBack and email your photo to ucsbalum@ia.ucsb.edu including your name and class year.

Not sure what to do? Here are some great ideas in your area:

Greater Chicago Food Depository
4100 W. Ann Lurie Pl. Chicago, IL 60632
Volunteers will assist with food repacking, where they will break up bulk products into individual and family-sixed portions, preparing food boxes, and checking expiration dates on donated food items.

H.O.M.E. (Housing Opportunities and Maintenance for the Elderly)
1419 W. Carroll Ave. Floor 2, Chicago, IL 60608-1149
Volunteers can assist with seasonal projects, such as helping weatherize a senior citizen's home in preparation for the harsh winters Chicago residents endure. There is also general assistance.
To volunteer, fill out an application found on website: https://www.homeseniors.org/volunteer/volunteer-at-h-o-m-e-/group-volunteer-activities

Breakthrough
Various locations on W. Carroll Ave. as well as N. St. Louis Ave in Chicago, IL 60624
Volunteers can help with any program, from homeless intervention (meal service), to neighborhood transformation (fresh market pantry assistant), or behind the scenes work (working the community threads thrift shop).
To volunteer, you will need to fill out an application about a month in advance, indicate your area of interest, and attend a volunteer night. Group volunteers need not attend volunteer information night: http://www.breakthrough.org/get-involved/volunteer/apply/
