Description

Come learn about UCLA Summer Travel Study’s Medicine/Global Health – Shanghai program Thursday, November 30, 2017 from 4:00pm-5:00pm!

Over the last six decades, the Chinese government has meticulously planned and implemented Chinese integrative medicine into various institutional contexts, where Chinese medicine and western medicine are blended to provide health promotion and disease treatment to patients. Shanghai, China’s largest and most modernized city, provides students with a chance to witness the unique integration of traditional culture, modern technology, and global perspectives.

The practice and understanding of integrative medicine (IM) varies throughout the world. In order to enhance understanding and to facilitate international collaboration and IM development worldwide, the UCLA Center for East-West Medicine (UCLA-CEWM) is offering this 8-unit program on global perspectives of integrative medicine in China. This program will be hosted in Shanghai partnering with the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SHUTCM). SHUTCM is one of the best Chinese medicine universities in China and the “innovative talents cultivation experimentation base” by China’s Ministry of Education.

The University has more than 2,200 international students enrolled and contains 20 colleges or departments, three directly affiliated top-level hospitals. Through this program, students will learn about basic concepts and various techniques of Chinese medicine, China’s rapidly changing landscape, and integrative medicine strategies being implemented to address personal and community health issues.

The 8-unit program consists of two courses. In one course, students will learn about basic concepts of Chinese medicine and its roots in Chinese culture as well as the modernization of Chinese medicine. In the other, students will learn about China’s rapidly changing healthcare landscape and integrative medicine strategies being implemented to address personal and community health issues. The second part offered in partnership with Fudan University School of Public Health

Faculty director, Professor Weijun Zhang, will share what a typical day on Travel Study is like, including information on: academics, housing, daily activities, and more!

We will also address questions about registration, eligibility, finances, and financial aid.
