Event description
To prepare UCLA student and faculty for instruction in correctional facilities.

About this event

Launched in 2016, the UCLA Prison Education Program creates innovative courses that enable faculty and students at the University of California, Los Angeles to learn from, and alongside, participants incarcerated at Victorville Federal Correctional Instituion (VFCI),  Barry J. Nidorf Juvenile Hall (BJN),  Camp Joseph Scott (CJS) correctional facility for girls, and the  Custody to Community Transitional Reentry Program (CCTRP) correctional facility for women.

The goal of this convening is to discuss approaches to teaching and learning that have been proven effective at engaging incarcerated students, and to prepare faculty and students for instruction in local correctional facilities. Incarcerated students in California Institute for Women (CIW) and Barry J. Nidorf Juvenile Hall (BJN) Think Tanks have helped develop five pillars we will address: Protocol, Assumptions, Privilege, Academic Integrity, and Trauma.
