Description

UCL is one of the research powerhouses in Synthetic Biology in the UK, significantly contributing to the field in a number of areas, including:

  • Nanotechnology

  • Design of DNA circuits

  • Designing and assembling novel routes for the synthesis of bioactive compounds

  • Re-engineering biological processes

  • Engineering new chassis

  • Developing new routes for biocontainment and safe large-scale biomanufacturing

  • Responsible Research and Innovation


The UCL Centre for Synthetic Biology has been established as a virtual institute to further facilitate Synthetic Biology Research at UCL, fostering closer collaborations and expanding Synthetic Biology research at UCL.

The event is a showcase of some of the Synthetic Biology currently being carried out at UCL and Birkbeck. It is also an opportunity for early career researchers, senior researchers and industry to share their progress and discuss the future direction of Synthetic Biology at UCL and Birkbeck
