About this Event

Python is an interpreted, high-level, general-purpose programming language. Created by Guido van Rossum and first released in 1991, Python has a design philosophy that emphasizes code readability, notably using significant whitespace. It provides constructs that enable clear programming on both small and large scales. The best way to learn how to program is to do something useful, so this introduction to Python is built around a common scientific task: data analysis.

Syllabus: Programming with Python

  1. Using libraries
  2. Working with arrays
  3. Reading and plotting data
  4. Creating and using functions
  5. Loops and conditionals
  6. Defensive programming
  7. Using Python from the command line
