Friends and family of students in the inaugural class of the Berkeley Master of Design (MDes) program, we invite you to join us the following commencement activities, where we will honor our graduates’ achievements and completion of the program.
This page provides an overview of MDes commencement activities. All events are free and open to MDes family and friends. You are welcome to join as many of these events as you would like.

Berkeley MDes Program Graduation Ceremony
Monday, May 16th , 4–5 PM in Banatao Auditorium, Sutardja Dai Hall
At this intimate program focused on MDes graduates, friends and family will join MDes faculty and administration in celebrating the MDes Class of Spring 2022. The program will feature speakers, reading of graduate names, presentation of awards, and more.
T-0: Pioneers Graduate Show Opening Reception
Monday, May 16th 5–7 PM in 310 Jacobs Hall
Directly following the MDes Graduation Ceremony, join our graduates as they showcase their work at the opening of their graduate exhibition.
MDes Commencement Reception
Tuesday, May 17th 11AM – 1 PM in East Courtyard, Bauer Wurster Hall
This outdoor reception immediately follows the College of Engineering Masters Commencement Ceremony and brings together friends and family to celebrate the MDes inaugural cohort. Light refreshments will be served.
T-0: Pioneers Graduate Show Public Exhibition
Tuesday, May 17th 12–5 PM in 310 Jacobs Hall
The exhibition projects will continue to be on display for the campus community and general public; all are welcome to engage with the culminating projects of the graduating class.
Other End of Semester Events
You are also invited to attend the College of Engineering Masters Commencement Ceremony on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 from 9-11AM at the Hearst Greek Theater. Graduating students must register for tickets for their guests. Find more event information here.
