Event description

Description

Ubuntu is a Bantu word loosely translated "I am because we are." Our signature culture/history lessons set the stage for a powerful culturally responsive learning experience.

Students will learn to play a band or orchestra instrument, and perform in an ensemble under the direction of Mr. Sigmund Johnson: the Ubuntu Training Ensemble for beginner instrumentalists and singers, The Bull City Youth Ensembles for intermediate and advanced instrumentalists and singers. Students will also explore the cultures, histories, artists, and expressive elements of the African Musical Diaspora lead by BUMP's lead teaching artist Lynette Boschulte. This program will run weekly through June 14 which is BUMP: The Triangle’s annual Black Music Month Celebration! Participants will workshop with professional musicians, attend concerts, and perform music that they have prepared throughout the program!
