"We're Starving for What You Have to Bring": Teaching in the Prison System

Speaker: Marcia Klotz, Department of English

Join the Honors College for an opportunity to hear from prestigious UA faculty as they discuss their work. Honors students, faculty, and friends of the College are encouraged to attend. The Honors College provides a complimentary lunch to all SmartTalks attendees.

Dr. Klotz will be describing the prison outreach project just launched by the English department at the University of Arizona. She will discuss what higher education can bring to prison populations, its benefits in reducing recidivism, violence on the prison yard, and conflict between corrections officers and incarcerated persons. She will also speak to the rewarding nature of this work for volunteers going into the prison system, and describe her own personal experiences over the past year.
