Event description
U-1105 'Black Panther' - History and Archaeology of a U-boat

About this Event

U-1105’s crew called it ‘Black Panther’; it is a modified Type VIIC U-boat refitted with the most advanced electronics and equipment available to the German Kriegsmarine in 1944. Its unique combination of attributes coupled with new tactical innovations greatly improved its chances of evading and menacing Allied merchant and naval vessels. U-1105 was the only vessel of its kind to conduct a wartime patrol and represents not only changes in technology and tactics in response to Allied victories in the Battle of the Atlantic, but also a critical evolutionary stage in the development of the modern submarine.

Join the Maryland Historical Trust and Aaron Stephan Hamilton, author of German Submarine U-1105 ‘Black Panther’ The Naval Archaeology of a U-boat, to learn about this unique archaeological resource resting on the bottom of the Potomac River.

As part of his presentation Aaron will show a ten-minute film of U-1105 taken by the U.S. Navy in 1948 during salvage training which has never been seen by the public.

Seating is limited. Each ticket is valid for ONE SEAT ONLY. Groups must register each member of their party separately to guarantee seating. Every attendee must present a government-issued photo ID to enter the building.

Doors open at 6:30 pm

Event begins at 7:00 pm
