About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours

Typography plays an influential and underestimated role in supporting the fine arts. Working at an art museum, the interaction of type and image is endlessly engaging—from fifteen second videos and compendium catalogues to generating giant billboards and exhibition graphics. This presentation will show how wide-ranging typographic approaches supercharge the impact and legibility of art histories in print, on screen, and for space.

David Karwan is a graphic designer, educator, and writer who lives and works in Los Angeles. He is currently the Creative Director of Graphic Design at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, where he has worked since 2012, and often part-time faculty at California State University, Los Angeles, where he has taught typography and senior projects.
