Type Media Center's Puffin Prize for Creative Citizenship Event

About this event

Join us on Wednesday, December 16th for a virtual celebration of 2020 Puffin Prize winner Desmond Meade. The program will include an intimate conversation on the current state of voting rights, featuring activist and singer-songwriter John Legend as well as Josie Duffy Rice, Type Media Center fellow and President of The Appeal.

Meade is the President of the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition, a grassroots, membership organization run by Returning Citizens (Formerly Convicted Persons) who are dedicated to ending the disenfranchisement and discrimination against people with convictions, and creating a more comprehensive and humane reentry system that will enhance successful reentry, reduce recidivism, and increase public safety.

About the Puffin Prize

The Puffin Foundation Ltd. and Type Media Center are the mutual sponsors of an annual $100,000 award given to an individual who has challenged the status quo through courageous, distinctive, and socially responsible work. The prize is intended to encourage the recipients to continue their work, and previous winners have included Colin Kaepernick, Amy Goodman, the Sunrise Movement, and the Parkland students who founded March for Our Lives.
