Description

The Toronto Youth Equity Strategy (TYES) invites frontline workers who are working with MVP youth (youth most vulnerable to involvement in serious violence and crime) to attend our 2018 Frontline Workers’ Workshop Series.

The first topic will be Educational Attainment for MVP Youth (youth most vulnerable to involvement in serious violence and crime), facilitated by Amadeusz, taking place at the North York Civic Centre in Room 3 on May 23, from 2:30 to 4:30 pm.

This workshop will be share current and relevant research, pertinent information and practical resources about access to education for youth who are incarcerated or recently released. Pathways to achieve educational goals from where a young person is at will be shared, including:

- Ontario High School Equivalency Certificate through the GED

- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)

- Academic Career Enhancement (ACE)

- Apprenticeships

- Post-secondary options, including college and university, and transitionary programs

- Financial Advice & Support

Amadeusz in a nonprofit organization based in Toronto, running since 2009. Amadeusz aims to foster the opportunity among young people who are impacted by incarceration, violence and crime to create positive change in their lives and communities. The Amadeusz Look at My Life Project facilitates education programs for youth who are incarcerated, ages 18-30, who reside at The Toronto South Detention Centre, The Toronto East Detention Centre, and Vanier Centre for Women. The goal of The Look at My Life Project is to provide young people who are in detention with the opportunity, resources and support to complete their high school education and to explore, prepare for and attend post-secondary schooling.
