Event description

Description

"I want to stand as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all the kinds of things you can't see from the center."

-Kurt Vonnegut

The 2018 TYCA Midwest Conference centers on the theme "Educators on the Edge." We invite the two-year college community to consider what it means to be part of an educational system that is increasingly squeezed (financially, emotionally, legislatively) and pushed to its limits. Simultaneously, we consider the concept of "the Edge" as a threshold concept, as Linda Adler-Kassler and Elizabeth Wardle recently explored in Naming What We Know. This conference aims to identify and speak to the material conditions we educators face in troubled times and identify the demarcations of what is already known--and cross those boundaries with one another in praxis.
