ALL FUNDS RAISED OVER $10,000 WILL BE DONATED TO HOUSTON RELIEF EFFORTS!!!!

The Racine Art Museum is acting as fiscal receiver so that you can make your charitable contribution to a non-profit rather than dumping money into a Kickstarter! Community engaged art sponsorship in action!

Timothy Westbrook's garments caught the attention of the Racine Art Museum during their exhibition in "A Whole Other World: Sub-Culture Craft." Timothy's "Alexis Rose" gown has been approved for permanent collection acquisition. WHY A FUNDRAISER?
Non-profit organizations with small budgets are unlikely to be able to purchase artwork from artists.
This is disappointing on both sides of the potential transaction. As establishments dedicated to nurturing and promoting artists, museums would love to be able to support them financially. Unfortunately, that’s not usually possible. So, artists are left in a somewhat awkward position, they can donate their work to museums––gaining prestige and advancing their careers––but at a fiscal loss. One delightful solution to this problem is when art patron is able to buy work and donate it to a museum. Obviously, this arrangement benefits the artist. They are paid for their hard work and their art lands in public view with a museum’s collection. It also helps the donor in a number of ways: they directly support the arts, they get their name on a museum wall (e.g. “Gift of So-and-So” on the artwork label), and they receive a tax deduction on the full value of the artwork. (IMPORTNAT SIDE NOTE: the artist wouldn’t get the same generous tax break if they donated work to a museum. They may only claim the value of the materials used in the making of the art, not the full value of the piece.)
