Event description

Description

Irina Boboia, with collaborator Gaby Lasala, interviewed and filmed eight interviews with Portland immigrants who shared their private stories of simultaneously being from many places and nowhere while becoming who they are through change and joy and hardship.

The screening will include a panel discussion with three immigrants/refugees who were included in Irina’s project:

- Salome Chimuku, born in USA just as her family arrived as Angolan refugees from a refugee camp in Zambia. Salome is ‎Program Manager for the LECC at the Criminal Justice Policy Research Institute at Portland State University.

- Alberto Moreno from Durango, Mexico. Alberto is Executive Director for the Oregon Latino Health Coalition.

- Kayse Jama from Somalia. Kayse is Executive Director of Unite Oregon.

The Two Worlds and Nowhere screening and panel is related to the Two Worlds and Nowhere exhibition by Irina Boboia, installed in Open Signal’s lobby from December 5, 2017 - January 19, 2018.

This program has been made possible by funding from the Regional Arts and Culture Council.
