Event Details

WUVT and Monkey House Concerts bring you an evening with . . .
Khumariyaan and the Boston Boys.  These bands are visiting just after a gig at the Kennedy Center.  Khumariyaan hails from Peshawar, Pakistan, and one of their band members says of their music, “In our country and particularly in our region, playing music, or indeed anything that is art, is a form of resistance, a resistance that many have paid for with their lives, yet the Pushtoons love their music” (lead guitarist Sparlay Rawail). The Boston Boys are equally talented; they have traveled abroad for the State Department, and they played for President Obama.  One reviewer says, “Top musicianship, lovable lyrics and a beautiful blend of Americana, Jazz and bluegrass will leave you re-planning your entire work playlist.”   The event is sponsored by the Center for the Arts at VT, the CLAHS Dean's Advisory Council on International Initiatives (DACII), the Center for the Study of Rhetoric in Society (CSRS), Monkey House Concerts, WUVT/EMCVT, and the Artful Lawyer, as well as the US Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
