Two Artists: Carla Carlson and Mark Brown
By Hattiesburg Arts Council
Overview
Local artists Carla Carlson (watercolor) and Mark Brown (sculpture) capture the spirit of their surroundings in their artwork.
Join us in celebrating Hattiesburg-area artists Mark Brown and Carla Carlson in a pre-Christmas exhibit and reception.
About the artists
- Mark Brown has been creating sculptures and paintings in the Pine Belt for nearly 30 years. His paintings and sculptures focus on the use of non-traditional materials. He limits the elements in his work to things from his immediate environment, giving them a feeling of spontaneity. Brown has worked a number of years in the museum field, and currently is a visual art faculty member at Jones College in Ellisville.
- Carla Carlson has focused on landscapes since 2010. She creates watercolors based on what she sees daily in Midtown Hattiesburg. She finds beauty in the interplay of natural light and shadow in the Deep South landscape, and interprets this into her unique watercolor pieces. Carlson previously created figurative work for over 20 years. She earned a BFA in painting and drawing from the University of Southern Mississippi.
