Calling all tweens!

Do you love books?  
So do we!  

Come meet 25 of your favorite authors for free.  

These are celebrated middle grade fiction authors with keynote address from Leland Melvin! In addition to the keynote authors, the following authors will be speaking on panels throughout the day: David Barclay-Moore, Stephen Bramucci, Jessica Brody, Jake Burt, Rob Buyea, Andrew Clements, Lindsay Eager, Alan Gratz, Lisa Greenwald, Paul Griffin, James Hannibal, Caleb Zane Huett, Victoria Jamieson, Erin Entrada Kelly, Kate Milford, Celia Perez, James Ponti, Corabel Shofner, Christina Soontornvat, Tamara Ireland Stone, Wade Albert White, Judd Winick, Allan Woodrow, and Kat Yeh.  Also Enjoy great books, food (including some of Houston's best food trucks), and friends.  You’ll even get to ask your favorite author questions at the end.

Who is invited to participate?

  • The target audience is tweens who are in grades 5-8.
  • We welcome teachers, librarians, parents, and other advocates for children's and adolescent literacy attending with their tweens.
  • The Festival will be promoted throughout the greater Houston area at public libraries, schools, and other youth-oriented agencies.

 

Goals of the Tweens Read Book Festival

The goal of the Tweens Read Book Festival is to celebrate and promote reading by connecting tweens with authors. The target audience for the event is students in grades 5-8.  The Festival organizers seek to:

  • Connect tween readers to local and national authors and illustrators.
  • Encourage interaction between aspiring tween writers and established authors.
  • Educate, enrich, inform, and entertain local tweens and other participants.
  • Celebrate the educational and recreational benefits of tween reading and writing.
  • Ignite a passion for reading and writing in the tween community.
