Event description

Description

There's no way around it, being a human is hard. The good news is that hard is the petri dish of great humor. With a little excavating, some expressive tools, and a fun space, almost any tough experience can be turned into funny.

If you've wanted to try stand up or if you're having a hard time with your job, your relationship, your kids, your parents, your apartment, or your body - or just, you know, the whole world - we'll make up for reminding you of it right here by helping you find the humor in it.

Join this six week stand up comedy class to learn:

  • How to get to the honest truth of what you have to say
  • Write jokes that make you and other people laugh, and
  • Get a chance to perform them on stage in front of an audience.

This class includes 6 weeks of workshops with some one-on-one coaching, 1 comedy show field trip, and 1 performance:

  • Thurs, May 21st 7:30 - 10pm, workshop #1
  • Thurs, May 28th 7:30 - 10pm, workshop #2
  • Thurs, June 4th 7:30 - 10pm, workshop #3
  • Wed, June 10th 8 - 9:30pm, comedy show field trip
  • Thurs, June 11th 7:30 - 10pm, workshop #4
  • Thurs, June 18th 7:30 - 10pm, workshop #5
  • Thurs, June 25th 7:30 - 10pm, workshop #6
  • Wed, July 1st 8 - 9:30pm, final performance

It is for anyone who wants to vent about or process their life, share their experience, laugh, and discover how to forever see all the hard things that happen to you as potential material.

This class is led by Ali Cherry. A wearer of many hats, Ali performs stand up all over DC, produces and hosts comedy shows in coffee shops, teaches stand up to veterans, runs DC Writers' Salon, and does marketing for an improv therapy program. All her projects are part of her mission to bring together comedy and mental health to make being human a little easier and a lot funnier.

Space is limited to 9 people so secure your spot soon. If you have any questions, email hello@dcwriterssalon.com.
