This workshop is aimed at those who have some knowledge of their instrument and can play a couple of folk tunes - Salmon Tails is a good example. You might not be very fluent yet or very fast but you might like the idea of being able to play along with others in a session.
In the hour workshop I will work on one particular tune which we will then be able to go and join in with at the slow session following this. I will cover some tips for getting the most out of your practice time and how to learn a new tune.
It is aimed at the “tune” instruments - fiddle, accordion, concertina, melodeon, mandolin, whistle, recorder….We will not be working on anything other than the tune so a knowledge of the basses on instruments will not be necessary.
I have been playing folk music for about 15 years, starting with 4 folk fiddle lessons at the Guildhall. I have never looked back! I have played for two Morris sides - England’s Glory Ladies Morris and Lassington Oak. I play for ceilidhs, mostly with That Shallot. There is a real kick in playing for dancing! I also play every week at the sessions in and around Gloucester. There are so many great tunes out there - and I know I will never learn them all, but I keep on trying. Do come and join us - we would love to have you share the fun.
