About this event
Please join us March 16th -18th for the 2022 Tufts Energy Conference! The TEC team has organized a set of panels and workshops that will explore the challenges of undertaking the energy transition with a specific focus on the electrification of transportation. Exciting speakers include Judy Chang, Undersecretary for the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, Ari Matusiak, CEO of Rewiring America, Marieke Beckmann of the Global Maritime Forum, and former Somerville Mayor and current President of the Northeast Clean Energy Council, Joe Curtatone.
As climate change becomes a graver threat, the energy sector is tasked with lowering carbon emissions effectively and rapidly. Transportation accounts for almost one-third of greenhouse gas emissions in the United States, and the electrification of the transportation sector is critical in working towards a net-zero future. However, electrification is only as effective as the grid is clean. Although the proportion of renewables is rapidly increasing, in 2020 only one-fifth of electricity generation in the U.S. was renewable according to the International Energy Agency. In the fight against climate change, we must electrify transportation in tandem with lowering the grid’s carbon footprint.
Transportation electrification will require investment, technological innovation, and creative thinking. Adjusting the energy infrastructure also necessitates global collaboration and a radical shift in the world economy. Those at the forefront of these transformations must account for the uneven environmental impacts of climate change and must serve communities on the local level.
The 2022 Tufts Energy Conference will break down and discuss issues of technological innovation, equity, economics, and global networking as they pertain to the future of electrification and transportation. The 2022 Tufts Energy Conference theme is Electrification and the Future of Transportation.
The Tufts Energy conference has a 17 year legacy of catalyzing rich discussions on some of the most critical energy issues of our time. It is widely attended by students, academics, and seasoned industry professionals on the East Coast.
The urgency of the conversation is clear. Our focus is on the transition from contemplation to solutions. We are excited by the opportunity to work with our sponsors and field experts to explore and debate solutions, critique the past, and pave the way forward to create a vibrant and thought-provoking experience for all of our attendees.
Please note: the Tufts Energy Conference is a student-run conference. We are excited to provide refreshments and lunch on Friday, but ask that if you are able to support the conference that you please buy a ticket. Regardless, we really appreciate your attendence (whether virtual or in person) and look forward to seeing you there!
Covid Guidelines:
Tufts University is committed to promoting a safe campus environment for all members of our community and guests. In light of the ever-changing impact of the coronavirus variants, all activities conducted on our campuses must adhere to specific event guidelines, posted on the university's COVID-19 website.
Visitors attending events on campus are required to be vaccinated and boosted (if eligible) and may be asked to show proof of vaccination. Disposable 3-ply masks or high quality KN95 masks are required to be worn indoors and at outdoor events where 100 or more people are present, except when eating or drinking, and should be replaced when wet or dirty.
Please note that you may be required to leave an event if you fail to follow these guidelines. While the university has a robust testing protocol and strives to mitigate the risks of infection and community spread, it is impossible to eliminate these risks entirely, and all event participants must recognize that they assume these risks of their own volition.
We hope that everyone will be understanding and embrace these guidelines in the spirit of Tufts' values as a caring community and one that believes strongly in civic responsibility.
