Celebrating 15 Years of Entrepreneurship at Tufts University


 

Daytime event: Tufts $100k New Ventures Competition – Live Finals

Evening event: Entrepreneurship Showcase, Shapiro Lecture with Diane Hessan, and Awards Ceremony

  • 6:15pm: Welcome by Tony Monaco, Tufts University President
  • 6:30pm: Keynote by Diane Hessan, winner of 2019’s Tufts Legend of Innovation & Entrepreneurship award
  • 7:30pm: Awards Ceremony
  • 8:00pm: Celebration Reception

Free for current Tufts students, faculty, and staff, as well as competitors and judges.


 

Organized by the Tufts Entrepreneurship Center, the annual $100k New Ventures Competition draws entries from alumni, faculty, staff, and undergraduate and graduate students from every school across the university. Teams compete for prizes and in-kind services totaling more than $100,000 in three tracks:

  • Medical Devices & Life Science
  • Social Impact
  • General Technology

The Shapiro Lecture will be given by Diane Hessan, a Tufts Alum, successful entrepreneur, researcher, and author. Diane Hessan, Shapiro Lecturer She is the founder and Chairman of C Space, formerly Communispace, which was the first company to build online communities for market research, back in 2000. Diane was CEO of the company during 14 years of exponential growth, as C Space worked with hundreds of global brands to gain insight and inspiration from their consumers.  A serial entrepreneur, Diane has consolidated all of her investment and advisory work into a new company called Salient Ventures, which will help accelerate the next generation of growth companies in tech.

Additionally, Diane Hessan will be the 2019 recipient of the Tufts Legends of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Award

The Tufts Entrepreneurship Center provides robust academic instruction in entrepreneurship combined with the real-world experience of our professors and advisors. We prepare students for impactful active citizenship in the disciplines of business and social enterprise. 

The Center is focused on developing innovative thinkers with entrepreneurial mindsets across all disciplines of the Tufts University community through an ecosystem of educational offerings and experiential, hands-on resources – including competitions, workshops, and accelerators.
