TUESDAYS with Mrs. Newton: Journey to JAPAN
with Angela Newton, Trained Art Educator and Fine Artist

Tuesday June 26, 10:00-2:30pm, ages 7-11 $52 if registered by June 15 ($62 after June 15)

“Konnichiwa”!! Journey to JAPAN and discover the beauty and simplicity of KOKESHI. These traditional wooden figures have been a part of Japanese culture for hundreds of years and may have originally been made to represent a “wish” for a healthy child, taking on forms such as children, peasants, ninjas, maiden, warriors, and more. Students will explore a variety of Japanese folk-art traditions, creating colorful patterns and designs to reflect scenery and symbolism of the culture as they learn about traditions and techniques in Japanese dollmaking commonly known as “ningyō”, which means “human shape”. Students will be supplied with all materials needed to create their own folk-art including a traditional wooden Kokeshi figure to decorate and take home!

*Bring a sack lunch and water bottle to enjoy during break, all other materials are provided.
