Dr. Deetz will talk about her research for her 2017 book Bound to the Fire and her most recent work at Stratford Hall, highlighting the essential roles and recipes associated with enslaved chefs in Virginia. Special focus will be given to the social and cultural interactions between the cooks and the ladies of the house.
The event is free, but pre-registration is requested. This event is taking place in-person but will be streaming online.
