Lars Åkerlund is the Founder and Owner of FIKA, a fast-growing chain of Swedish cafes that offer high end coffee, exclusive handcrafted chocolates and delicacies, and food menus inspired by Scandinavian flavors.
Taking on a new country and opening up a place for people to enjoy a brief moment away from life’s everyday stress had been a dream of Mr. Åkerlund ever since he first saw the movie Cocktail in 1989. A strange inspiration one might think, but after a trip to New York in 2001, the dream started to come to life. Mr. Åkerlund felt the city’s pulse, its vibrant energy and its endless possibilities, but also noticed a void when it came to one of his favorite things in the world - a truly satisfying cup of coffee. His entrepreneurial mind quickly saw the potential for a great business opportunity. Following four years of extensive research and planning, Mr. Åkerlund decided to pursue his dream of opening up his own business in the city he had fallen in love with. He sold everything he owned and moved his entire life across the Atlantic. 34.000 real estate ads and 97 viewings later, Lars finally found the perfect spot in number 98 and was able to begin his journey.
Mr. Åkerlund’s ability to anticipate the needs and demands of his target market, along with his drive, tenacity and endless passion, has allowed him to grow his business from one small location to five locations including a chocolate production facility and a distribution deal with Whole Foods and other national retail chains. Join us on October 15 for an exclusive event with Lars Åkerlund, where he will talk about his life and entrepreneurial journey.
