Event description

Description

Join Tucson's Equity Coalition, a collective that will fight for a more equitable Tucson. Our first meeting is going to be on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018 @ 3 pm at the Pima County Housing Center (801 W Congress St, Tucson, AZ 85745).

Our primary goals are to advocate for social and economic justice issues that empower all Tucsonans and create a better quality of life for our respective communities.

The idea for this coalition emerged from our experiences organizing community forums this past Fall for the City Council elections. A number of local agencies teamed up with grassroots organizers/collectives to ask City Council candidates how they were going to address such equity issues as improving people's access to public transportation, alternative transit options, healthful foods, affordable housing, and quality education.

We also pushed the candidates to speak to issues related to our racially disparate criminal justice system and the city's current policies regarding immigrant rights.

We found that these forums reflected the existence of a revived momentum within Tucson. Different groups--non-profits and community groups alike--are now holding elected officials accountable for creating and enforcing policies that benefit/improve the standard of living for all Tucson residents.

We want to continue these efforts with the Equity Coalition and you!

Again, please join us on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018 @ 3 pm at the Pima County Housing Center (801 W Congress St, Tucson, AZ 85745).
