Registration is underway for the 2017 IPE Fall Symposium brought to you by the Office of Interprofessional Education at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.  The focus of the IPE Fall Symposium is to bring healthcare professionals together to learn about, from, and with each other to enable effective collaboration and improve health. 

This year's symposium topic is Interprofessional Teamwork: Embracing the Patient Journey. The featured keynote speaker is Marcus Engel.

Marcus Engel, is a speaker, author, and respected thought leader who inspires and educates healthcare professionals with narratives of unforgettable patient experiences.  As a college freshman, Marcus was blinded and nearly killed after being struck by a drunk driver in a car accident.  Through two years of rehab, over 300 hours of reconstructive facial surgery and adaptation through a multitude of life changes, Marcus remained committed to his goal of recapturing life.  

Marcus is the founder of the "I'm Here Movement", a non-profit 501(C)3 organization. Through this movement, Marcus is helping change the culture of care with two little words - I'm Here.   It is a global effort to help healthcare professionals embrace the power they have to comfort patients by simply being present.

The morning session of the 2017 IPE Fall Symposium will be broadcast to all TTUHSC campuses from the Overton Hotel and Conference Center in Lubbock.  Each TTUHSC campus will host a case based learning activity for all students during the afternoon session. 

The IPE Fall Symposium is a registered TTUHSC IPE Learning Activity and participating students who attend the afternoon session will receive a certificate for their attendance.

Individual Campus Information:

Lubbock - the IPE Fall Symposium will originate at the Overton Hotel and Conference Center, 2322 Mac Davis Lane, Lubbock, TX 79401 and all Lubbock participants will need to attend at the Overton location.  The morning session will be held in the Sunset Ballroom room with the afternoon session held in both the ballroom and upstairs conference rooms.  Students will be assigned to a case study group and meeting area.  Hotel parking is available free of charge, on a first come, first serve basis.  Please consider car pooling.  Additioinal parking is available on the side streets.  A light breakfast will be served and all participants will be on their own for lunch.  A map of area restaurants is attached.  

Abilene - the IPE Fall Symposium morning session will be Techlinked to the Abilene campus in rooms ABPH 2201, ABSON 2000, and AB2500.  Afternoon case study sessions will be held in rooms ABPH 2201, ABPH 2200, ABPH 2202, ABPH 2401, ABSON 1200, and ABSON 2500.  Students will be assigned to a case study group and classroom.  Lunch will be provided to all participants attending the full day on the Abilene campus.  The campus address is 1718 Pine Street, Abilene, TX 79601.

Amarillo - the IPE Fall Symposium morning session wiill beTechlinked to the Amarillo campus in room AMSOP 100.   Afternoon case study sessions will be held in rooms AMSOP 100, AMSOP 107, AMHSC 4720, and AMHSC 4902.  Students will be assigned to a case study group and classroom.  Lunch will be provided to all participants attending the full day on the Amarillo campus. The campus address is 1300 S. Coulter Street, Amarillo, TX 79106.

Dallas SW & VA - the IPE Fall Symposium will be held at Dallas Marriott Suites Medical/Maret Center, located at 2493 North Stemmons Freeway, Dallas, TX 75207, for all Dallas participants.  The full day symposium will be held in the hotel conference rooms.  Students will be assigned to a case study group and meeting area.  Hotel parking is available free of charge.  A light breakfast will be served and all participants will be on their own for an extended lunch hour.  A map of area restaurants is attached.

Midland/Odessa - the IPE Fall Symposium will be held on the Midland campus for all students attending either the Midland or Odessa campuses.  The moring session will be Techlinked in rooms MDPA B01A, MDPA B03, MDPA B11, MDPA B55, and MDPA B60.  Afternoon case study sessions will be held in rooms MDPA B03, MDPA B11, MDPA B55, and MDPA B60.  Students will be assigned to a case study group and classroom.  Lunch will be provided to all participants attending the full day on the Midland campus.  The campus address is 3600 N Garfield Street, Midland, TX 79705.  The IPE Fall Symposium will be Techlinked on the Odessa campus in room ODHSC 2C12 for faculty, staff, and students who are not attending the afternoon case study session.  


 

New for 2017!! The Office of Interprofessional Education is bringing ZOOM to TTUHSC distance learning students.  Zoom will be available to the first 500 registrants either in a classroom setting or individual setting, on a first come, first serve basis.  Zoom is restricted to distance learning students only who are registered in any TTUHSC online program.

FAQs

The 2017 Fall Symposium will be held (originate) at the Overton Hotel and Conference Center in Lubbock, TX.  The morning session will be TechLinked to all TTUHSC campuses and each campus will host their own case study activity.  The morning session will be held in the Sunset Ballroom at the Overton Hotel and all groups (Lubbock) for the afternoon case study will be located in the building.  

Room locations for each campus will be updated in October 2017.

  • Where is the Overton Hotel Located?

The Overton Hotel and Conference Center is located at 2322 Mac Davis Lane in Lubbock, TX.  All faculty, staff, and students attending in Lubbock will be responsible for their own transportation to and from the Overton Hotel.  A parking map of the Overton Hotel is attached.  Additional parking is avialable on the streets around the hotel.  

  • Why has the IPE Fall Symposium been moved to the Overton Hotel?

The Office of Interprofessional Education is pleased to offer this change of venue for the IPE Fall Symposium.  With a  new venue that seats up to 1,100 people, we are able to offer a "live" seat to all of our Lubbock participants as well as extend the symposium to other healthcare professionals in the community.  

  • Is all day attendance at the IPE Fall Symposium required?

Full day attendance at the entire IPE Fall Sympoisum is not required.  The morning session is intended for all audiences and the afternoon session is geared towards students.  It is recommended that students attend both the morning keynote session and the afternoon case-based learning activity, as the case selection is designed for student interaction in interprofessional teamwork and collaboration.  The afternoon portion of the IPE Fall Sympoisum is a registered IPE Learning Activity and all students attending will receive a certificate of participation to take back to their individual schools. 

  • Is there a dress code for the symposium?  What do I need to bring?

There is not a dress code to attend the symposium.  Please bring any materials that you feel might be beneficial to your team for the case study discussion.  Copies of the case will be released two weeks prior to the symposium and will be available on the Guidebook app.

  • What is the target audience for the morining session?

The morning session is ideal for all faculty, students, staff, and administration.  Marcus' experiences and discussion on patient care are compelling for all audiences. 

  • Can I attend the symposium if I am outside TTUHSC?

Those outside TTUHSC are welcome to attend the symposium!  We encourage collaboration with other university programs and students.  When selecting your individual ticket, plese scroll down to the bottom and select other (non TTUHSC participant). Please indicate on your registration form any affiliations you may have within the healthcare professions.  Participants outside of the education setting are also welcome to attend.  Please use the guest registration selection.

  • What is the deadline for registration?

In order to facilitate room assignments and the needs of the IPE Fall Symposium, a registration deadline is firmly set for October 20, 2017.  Those wanting to register outside this time period can contact the IPE office to see if space is available.  

  • How can I download the IPE Fall Symposium materials?

The Office of Interprofessional Education is pleased to offer all symposium handouts and case study information through the Guidebook app.  The app can be downloaded from the app store that supports your smart phone, android, or computer/tablet/laptop.  A confirmation code to access sympoisum materials will be provided prior to the symposium date.  The information in Guidebook will be updated as it draws closer to the event.

  • Is Breakfast and Lunch provided?

Breakfast will be provided on all campuses.  Lunch will be provided on the outlying campuses only this year. Because the Overton Hotel and Conference Center is located within a short walking distance of a large selection of restaurants, Lubbock participants will have a free hour to eat lunch on their own at the location of their choice.
