TSWRJ "University" - Helping Aging Family Members Plan for Care
Sunday, March 3, 3 to 5 pm, at Temple Sinai
Please join TSWRJ University to learn more about helping family members plan for aging and care.
Panelists:
Rabbi Jonathan Roos: How Jewish text and tradition instruct how we care for aging parents; Jewish values and Jewish community support vis-à-vis aging. The role of clergy in supporting our aging community members and/or their families.
Nathan Billig, M.D., Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Georgetown University and past president of Chevy Chase At Home: Demographics. Normal and healthy aging, including changes that can be expected over time, the wide range of ability and functioning into old age, and the importance of engagement with people, activities, etc. Adjustments required to successfully adapt to the changes aging imposes. Indicators of when it would be appropriate to consider increased levels of care/care management. The rise and role of the “village” movement as one of the valuable institutions that help older people stay engaged in the community and assist with the transition from independence to increased care.
Leslie Kessler, LCSW-C. LICSW, Clinical Social Worker, Jewish Social Service Agency: Preparing for caregiving, having family conversations about care, the role of care management and eldercare consultation, a brief description of the relevant services offered through JSSA, and other kinds of services if related questions arise.
Laura Sibarium, Registered Nurse, Clinical Nurse Specialist, and former TSWRJ board member.
