Description

Truth is Beauty, a 55-foot sculpture that symbolizes the trust, freedom, and expression of a woman striving to reach her most authentic self, free from fear or violence. Her presence has empowered the community to advocate for equality and begs the question, “What would the world be like if women were safe?

About the Director:

Brandon Katcher grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. From a young age, he developed a devotion to film, in particular, cinematography. After attending the film program at Syracuse University, Brandon decided to pack his camera on his back and travel to India and Nepal, documenting his spiritual journey to Everest Base Camp. This became "A Gentle Walk", his first feature documentary. Since then, he has created and been a part of projects ranging from Auto Racing, Wine and Travel, Music, Religion and Spirituality, Horror, and the Natural World. Utilizing a unique filming and editing style, Brandon continues to seek out intriguing and thought-provoking subjects for his work.

Director Statement

I have always had a passion for the moving image. I remember the moment I picked up my first video camera at 12 years old. My first film, made for a 6th-grade class, was aptly titled, “Attack of the Killer Mutant Worm”. Since then, I have had the opportunity to travel the world making films, and I can’t conceive of anything I would rather do.

The first time I came upon artist Marco Cochrane’s “Bliss Dance,” she stood proudly on Treasure Island. I was floored by her beauty, but I had no idea of the motivation behind her creation. When given the opportunity to tell the story of “Truth is Beauty,” the second in Cochrane’s “Bliss Project” series, I discovered the fundamental message that surrounds her. All too often, this is a conversation that is only spoken of in dark corners and muted whispers. With “Truth is Beauty,” we aspire to drive that dialog into the light.
