Event Details

Sugars, sweets and candy played a large part in the lives of rural families for centuries. At the turn-of-century, these foods started to shift, as industrialization saturated the eating habits of people everywhere. In this talk and tasting, you'll discover the medicines of the mid-to-late 1800s and their new lives as candy in the 1920s; explore the role of Prohibition in sweets - for better or worse (usually better); the sugars of rural communities and its surprising legacy in the abolitionist movement, and much more. You'll get a bag of candies that you'll sample as we go."

Tickets are $20, which includes the presentation, candy tastings, and a donation to the museum. Doors will close promptly at starting time to not interrupt the program.  Please plan to arrive 15 minutes ahead of your seating.

*The program requires attention for an hour and proper table manners and thus are not suitable for children under the age of 8 years.  Your PayPal confirmation is your receipt and places you on our seating list. We will contact you if we need clarification on your order or group size for seating purposes. The studio does offer a restroom with more at our office building.  Please let us know if you need special accommodations for accessibility or the seating of larger groups. Cancellations must be made 2 weeks before the program for a refund unless we are able to sell your seats to someone on the waiting list. Thank you for your understanding.*
