Event description
Join True Story Theater's Spring fundraiser! Support community building theater with heart by donating and/or attending on May 14.

About this event

Please join True Story Theater for an evening of fun, learning, reflection, and connection.

At this year's spring 2021 fundraiser, we’re taking a moment to look back and look ahead, to contemplate the pains and gifts of our COVID experiences.

Support community theater to build understanding and empathy, and hold space for personal stories around diversity equity and inclusion in Arlington and beyond. We aim to raise $5000 for this coming season and help match cultural grants. Your contribution makes a huge difference. Help support our theater of empathy at this critical moment.

This event is for people who are new to Playback or familiar with this form of interactive theater and long-time fans. All welcome.

Here's the evening's agenda:

6:30-7:30pm:

  • Welcome
  • Choose your own adventure. Pick from engaging activities including a sing-back group, a improv and Playback mini class, a remembrance circle for loved one's lost during COVID, a space for newcomers to Playback, and more.

7:30 - 9:00pm

  • Playback performance: Stories of living in times of change
  • Learn more about True Story Theater: Hear how True Story is helping our communities to build bridges and deepen dialogue and understanding across differences

Reserve your ticket or make a donation. Choose the ticket option that works for you $25, $50, or $100, or $5+ pay-what-you-can.

More about True Story Theater's work:

This past year we successfully adapted our uniquely interactive art to Zoom, bringing people together from across the Boston region and worldwide to share their stories about the challenges and unexpected joys of time in the pandemic, and the nature of race, difference, and identity. Our bystander workshops helped people learn to stand up effectively to bias and bigotry, and we helped them discover themselves and others more deeply and compassionately in our ongoing open playback workshops.

True Story Theater does 75-100 public and private performances and workshops a year. We aim to honor untold stories from many under-represented and marginalized communities. This bi-annual fundraiser is crucial to help us provide powerful workshops and shows to many communities and groups that do not have the budget to hire TST.

Our fundraising goal for this event is $5000. Please give what you are able to. Your donations will help us to match grants we have received and ensure our programs are accessible to all. Even if you can't attend the event, you can still donate and buy a ticket.

Thank you for your support! We appreciate you!
