Event description
Volunteers are needed to help clean Bridge 31 known as Trollheim Bridge. Volunteers are needed to remove debris between deck boards.

About this Event

The Friends of Mount Vernon Trail will be removing debris between deckboards on Bridge 31. This debris is currently preventing drainage on the bridge contributing to mold and mildew that make the bridge slippery. Bridge 31 is located near Theodore Roosevelt Island and is commonly referred to as Trollheim because of it's slipperiness.

Volunteers will perform the following work:

  • Using flat edge tools remove debris between deckboards
  • This is mostly non-strenous work but may involve kneeling and crouching

What to Bring:

  • Water
  • Gloves (We'll have a few pair on hand as well)
  • Safety Vest (We'll have some of these on hand as well)

Where to Meet:

We'll gather near the bike racks on the south side of the Theodore Roosevelt parking lot at 9 a.m. on Saturday, October 31st.

COVID Safety Precautions:

All volunteers are expected to wear a face covering and maintain at least 6 feet of distance from other volunteers. All equipment will be sanitized prior to use. We'll have some hand sanitizer available. We'll have gloves and bright safety vests to use but recommend bringing your own if you have them.

Fundraising for Non-Slip Treatment:

We're raising funds to install a non-slip treatment on the bridge. For details and to donate, visit https://www.gofundme.com/f/a-crash-free-trollheim
