In this class you will be making a stretchy tank dress!
Workshop Schedule: Meets for 4 consecutive Wednesdays - December 7, 14, 21, 28 from 6:15-9:15pm
Where: Trixy Xchange - 1579 N. Milwaukee Ave., Studio #232 Chicago, IL 60657 (Wicker Park)
Prerequisite: Essential sewing skills at the beginner level are a must for this class. Or take our Beginner Machine Sewing class first!
Minimum Age: 18
Trixy Xchange will Provide: Expert instructions, sewing machines, cutting tables, basic notions, basic tools, and muslin or fabric for mock-ups
Participants Must Bring: 4 yards of 2-way or 4-way stretch fabric of choice and matching thread. Participants may bring their own sewing machines and/or sewing supplies if they'd like.

Participants May Purchase: Stretch fabric from Trixy Xchange for a fee if they decide to not purchase it on their own
In this class, you will learn how to work with and manipulate stretch fabric. It's not as hard as you think! :)
We will explore and create:
How to use and manipulate stretchy fabric
How to follow a pattern and find your size
Hem with zig zag stitching and sew in darts
How to adjust your hem around curves
How to make slight alterations to your pattern
How to layout and cut your fabric with a pattern
The importance of grain lines on patterns and how to use them
How to thread your sewing machine and wind your bobbin
Seam finishes and hems
Stitch length and the importance of back stitching
Sewing and drafting darts with transfer paper and a tracing wheel
How to pin your pattern and fabric together correctly
Instructor: Marie Gouwens is the owner and designer of Trixy Xchange. She specializes in costumes and upyclced clothing. She believes in taking care of the world that we inhabit, and therefore creates a generous amount of designs that are upcycled from clothing and materials that are donated to her studio! It's a creative challenge that she has embraced, which also keeps her designs fresh, beautiful and eco-friendly.
Directions to Studio: Trixy Xchange is located in the Flat Iron Arts Building in Wicker Park. When you get to the 2nd floor, take a left at the top of the stairs, take another immediate left, go around the bend, and look for our Clothing Recycling Bin in front of our studio!
