Event description

Description

Two of the 20th century's most powerful musical moments. One of the world's most famous concert halls.

Thomas Loewenheim leads the FOOSA Philharmonic Orchestra in this exciting tribute to the power of human perseverance.

Richard STRAUSS - Also sprach Zarathustra
Dmitri SHOSTAKOVICH - Leningrad Symphony

From its opening fanfare— used as the theme for Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space OdysseyThus Spake Zarathustra takes us on an epic journey celebrating the limitless potential of the human spirit.

Then comes one of history’s most unlikely musical works. In 1941, Dmitri Shostakovich and millions of his fellow citizens were trapped by the Nazis in the Siege of Leningrad.

The composer poured his experiences into the Leningrad Symphony— a piece so compelling, it was smuggled out of the city in a joint operation by the predecessors to the KGB and the CIA for premieres in Moscow and New York.

Now you can experience the musical masterpiece for which the composer— and dozens of Allied spies— risked their lives, as the FOOSA Philharmonic performs this stunning musical glimpse at a city under siege.
