October 5th, Day 1:

Arrival day! Fly into Quito at any time. Make your way to the hotel and drop your bags before heading out to explore and maybe grab some local grub. Tonight you will meet the rest of your travelers and your guide for a welcome meeting to go over the itinerary and answer any questions you may have about the trip. As the excitement builds, find out what to do and where to go tonight before turning in and getting some rest for the remainder of your journey.

October 6th, Day 2:

After breakfast, pack up and load in for your transfer to Banos. Upon arrival, opt in for one of the optional excursions. Soak in the nearby hot springs and take in the scenery of the prolific Amazon. You can also find excursions ziplining through the treetops, canyoneering down the face if a waterfall, or horseback riding through the countryside and over a volcano.

Meals Included: Breakfast

October 7th, Day 3:

Today is a free day to explore Banos! Head out and find a quiet spot for some breakfast and fuel up. Banos is one of the most heavenly places to set off and go for a hike. Ask the hotel concierge for a good starting point to see amazing waterfalls, lush green vegetation, colorful animals and even a swing that seems to swing out over eternity.

You can also opt in on one of the optional excursions. Go horseback riding, mountain biking, white water rafting or canyoneering. Take a soak in the hot springs or step it up with a ziplining adventure. Head into town and explore this evening. The night is yours.

October 8th, Day 4:

Today we pack up and head out to explore the heart of the Amazon jungle. Notice the scenery dramatically change as we descend from the mountains into the wet green jungle. We arrive in Tena and change transportation on our way into a small village near the community of Cando. Here, we check into our jungle huts. This afternoon we begin to integrate into a Quichua family and learn more about their culture and lifestyle. Tonight we flow with their routine as we learn what engulfs the evening of a Quichua family.

Meals Included: Lunch, Dinner

October 9th, Day 5:

It’s adventure time! Wake up with the Quichua family and start the day. Today will be filled with traditional life in the jungle. Absorb as much as you can as you experience typical meals, meet new friends, witness new customs as you observe daily life in the jungle. Take nature walks and learn about how the locals use plants and their surroundings in everyday day to day tasks. Experience the places that are special to the community’s heart, share in their customs and daily traditions. Tonight will be spent in your rustic jungle huts.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

October 10th, Day 6:

Wake up to breakfast before setting off on a bicycle ride through the Amazon. For about 2 hours, with plenty of stops along the way, we cycle through the rainforest led by our local guide. Check out the stunning foliage, unique animals, and breathtaking views on our way to the indigenous Shandia community. After a short visit, we make our way back to our jungle residence, pack up and explore on to Papallacta. Upon arrival we will check into our hotel and drop our bags before taking an afternoon dip in the local hot springs. Tonight is yours to relax and/or explore Papallacta.

Meals Included: Breakfast

October 11th, Day 7:

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before a relaxing morning in the local hot springs. Let the naturally heated pools sooth your muscles and nurture your soul as you make your way through the circuit with views of the Antisana Volcano in the background. After our hot springs visit, we head back to Quito to settle in for the night. Head out to explore further, or get some rest. We are back at it tomorrow.

Meals Included: Breakfast

October 12th, Day 8:

Enjoy breakfast before we head even further north to Otavalo. After the short drive we drop our stuff and head to the largest open market in South America. Farmers and craftsmen come from the surrounding countryside to buy, sell and trade goods in this plethora of color and haggling. Acquire some truly one-of-a-kind souvenirs and if your negotiating skills are good enough, you may get it for next to nothing. Take the day to explore Otavalo and the market or head just outside of town to explore the Peguche Waterfall, hike around the volcanic crater lake of Cuicocha or visit the mountain town of Cotacachi.

Meals Included: Breakfast

October 13th, Day 9:

After breakfast with the group, you head out for Cotopaxi National Park. The day starts with a blissful drive through the lush and colorful country and up the mountain, we arrive at our home for the night in a mountain lodge. The rest of the day is yours to explore the nearby area. Opt for a mountain bike ride through the nearby striking landscape.

Meals Included: Breakfast

October 14th, Day 10:

Spend the morning at the Cotopaxi National Park. Keep a lookout for local wildlife such as foxes, deer and condors. Hope that you don’t see any speckled bears. After a couple hours exploring and hopefully making friends with some of the local alpacas, we head slightly down the mountain to Alausí, on the edge of the Río Chanchán gorge. We will settle here for the night before continuing our journey tomorrow. Grab a bite nearby. Then, check out the giant statue of Saint Peter and other sites or relax for the evening at the hotel.

Meals Included: Breakfast

October 15th, Day 11:

Have some breakfast and pack up. Today we get to experience the Nariz del Diablo (Devil’s Nose) train ride as it descends through the gorge over 3000 ft through a 16 mile series of switchbacks. Check out the spectacular engineering and stunning mountainside while getting some truly astonishing photo opportunities.

Then it is off to Cuenca. This bustling city has plenty to do. Check out the nightlife, grab a quick bite, or head out souvenir shopping before settling in for the night.

Meals Included: Breakfast

October 16th, Day 12:

Today is your day! Head out and explore Cuenca on your own. Wander the cobblestone streets getting lost in the colonial architecture, art galleries and quaint street markets, or sign up for one an optional excursion to the mysterious Ingapirca Ruins or the Cajas National Park in the grassy highlands of Ecuador. Relax in a mud bath and in the local hot springs to rejuvenate your body after this long and rewarding adventure . Visit the countryside for a chance at some handcrafted musical instruments, tapestries and textiles bought straight from the hands that make them while touring nearby villages and getting to know their people. Hook up with a local guide for a city tour of Cuenca. Make it as easy or as busy as you want it to be.

Meals Included: Breakfast

October 17th, Day 13:

Today we wake up to breakfast in Cuenca with a little time to relax and enjoy this culturally rich city. Then, hop on a plane and take off for a short flight (included) back to Quito. Check into the hotel and take some time to explore this historical city.
