Event description

Description

We hope that you are able to join us for The Matt Haverkamp Foundation’s Tribute To Deborah Dixon as we honor one of Cincinnati’s best crime reporters and celebrate her more than 40 years of commitment to the tri-state community.

Deborah Dixon graduated from Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio with a degree in communications. She began her career at Local 12 as the station's graphic artist in April of 1974. The day after she began working at the station, tornadoes hit Xenia and she helped the assigned reporter cover the story. Before she knew it, the "news bug" had bitten her and she ended up working in almost every area of the WKRC-TV newsroom, from producer to full-time reporter.

On May 31, 2018, after 44 years at WKRC-TV, Deborah Dixon retired. She has said that throughout her career, she is proudest of bringing Crimestoppers to Cincinnati. This happened in 1980 after two years of working to gain the support of the Police Chief. Since there were so few in the country, some people were reluctant to risk trying such an idea. It became a highly useful tool that has led to the arrests of hundreds of criminals and paid out more than $100,000 per year in reward money - all donated by the people and businesses of greater Cincinnati. Deborah says, "As a founder of Crimestoppers, Local 12 helped Cincinnati become a safer place to live. We are all proud of that."
