Event description

Description

On October 24, from 3:30-8:30 p.m., we will be having a tribunal for three New Orleans schools, which will represent the education crisis in all of the schools throughout the city. We have been asked to decide what four things we should focus on and ensure that schools are held accountable to. We will be analyzing schools through the lens of the parent, student and teacher relationships, and experiences. Experts on trauma and child brain development will testify, veteran teachers will be there to talk to us, as well as educational experts, or individuals certified in degrees in education.

After we decide as a group what four things we want to focus on holding schools accountable for, we will split up into groups and have groups determine four more important issues. The information gathered from this tribunal will be used for bi-weekly reports, as well as local and national news. The goal is to hold our schools accountable and be able to accurately monitor any progress or lack thereof.

We must ensure that schools follow both state and federal law. For schools that are unsure of what this looks like, or how to accurately follow both state and federal law, we will offer community resources and training to ensure there are no gaps in understanding what a law-abiding school looks like.

Food will be served and childcare will be available
