We'll begin with a thorough warmup, and then dig deeply into applications of the ATS® posture and vocabulary that can be applied to any style of bellydance. Learn how to create fluid shapes rooted in vibrant stillness, and use your body and breath to project joy, gratitude, and an open, regal presence. Open to all levels of bellydancers, of any style, looking to refine posture and add strength, grace, and precision. Advanced ATS® dancers will get a lot out of this workshop as well!

MUSICALITY FOR ATS®

Saturday, Sept. 12th, 1:30 – 3:30 pm at KMCC.

The ATS® vocabulary and formations provide endless variety to meaningfully interpret your music. Learn how to listen for shapes in the music and create beautiful, elegant visuals that work musically with any song style in our repertoire. Developing your ATS® musicality will not only enrich the audience's experience, but will also result in you having much more fun dancing! Please know the basics of the ATS® level 1 vocabulary, including simple trio and quartet formations.

This fun, high-energy workshop will teach you the anatomy of a shimmy, as well as tips & drills from the FCBD® studio for getting shimmies of all types bigger and more consistent. We’ll also practice getting your spins cleaner, more reliable, and in sync. Bring your finger cymbals and come prepared to sweat! All levels & dance styles welcome; some knowledge of ATS style shimmies and spins ideal, but not necessary.

ADVANCED SKILLS & FORMATIONS

Sunday, Sept. 13th, 1:30 - 3:30 pm at KMCC.

Kick it down with a high-energy power duet, or ooze drama and strength with a slow dynamic trio! Learn how to use partnering and creative formations to change the performance dynamic and really "play" on stage. We'll also use a small sampling of advanced steps from level 3 and beyond, and practice them in creative ways that connect you with your partners like never before. Build your improv choreography while keeping your audience guessing! Participants should know basic ATS® Level 1 & 2 vocabulary to get the most from this workshop.

HELPFUL INFORMATION ABOUT SILVERTON

Silverton is a quaint and historic Victorian mining town located 50 miles north of Durango in the heart of Colorado's majestic San Juan Mountains. The town is a National Historic Landmark, and is surrounded by public lands, so opportunities for outdoor recreation including hiking, mountain biking, camping, jeeping, etc. abound. September is a wonderful time of year to view the fall colors. More information on Silverton area activities can be found on the Silverton Chamber of Commerce website: www.silvertoncolorado.org.

Please note that Silverton sits an elevation of 9,318 feet above sea level. While altitude sickness is not a problem for most visitors, you should be aware of its symptoms which include headaches, dizziness and shortness of breath. One of the best ways to avoid altitude sickness is to drink lots of water before you arrive and while you are here. Allowing a day or two to acclimate, eating light meals, reducing your alcohol intake and getting plenty of rest will also help.

The weather in Colorado can be unpredictable. It can be very warm and sunny in September, or we may experience snow. Nighttime temperatures can vary by as much as 30 degrees from daytime highs. Your best bet is to be prepared for anything Mother Nature may dish out! Bring everything from tank tops to warmer layers and flip flops to closed toe shoes.

LODGING & LOGISTICS

Two airports are roughly equidistant from Silverton: the Durango La Plata County Airport (DRO) and the Montrose Regional Airport (MTJ), which are 62.3 and 60.25 miles from Silverton respectively. Airport shuttles can be arranged through Mountainside Concierge: www.mountainsideconcierge.com.

With the exception of the Friday night meet & greet and the Saturday night after party, all workshops, vending and the hafla will take place at Kendall Mountain Community Center. Classes and the hafla will be in the Grand Ballroom, which is a beautiful timber framed space with hardwoods floors, ample natural light and fantastic mountain views. KMCC is a short walk from Silverton’s downtown area, or if you prefer to drive, the facility also has a large lot with ample free parking. For more information about KMCC visit http://www.sanjuancountycolorado.us/kendall-mnt.html

We have arranged discounted lodging rates with two hotels in town. The Teller House is offering rooms for $79/night (www.tellerhouse.com), and the Triangle Motel (www.trianglemotel.com) is offering 10% off their standard rates. Mention Caldera when you call to book your reservation in order to receive the discount. Private vacation homes can also be rented through Silverton Property Management: www.silvertonpropertymanagement.com.

REFUND POLICY

Please note that workshop registration fees are non-refundable, however they are transferable. If you have purchased tickets and are unable to attend, it is your responsibility to sell your spot to another dancer.  Please email calderabellydance@gmail.com with your name, the classes you have registered for, and the name of the dancer who will be taking your place.
