Safe Voices is hosting a Domestic Violence Summit with a focus on high risk domestic violence in the Tri-County area. Our keynote speaker will be Diane Rosenfeld, a lecturer on law and the Director of the Gender Violence Program at Harvard Law School, who has played an instrumental role in the violence against women movement for many years.

The day will feature a combination of trainings and panel discussions including: Strangulation, High Risk Response Model, Homicide and Domestic Violence, and Offender Accountability. These sessions will highlight speakers and panelists from Safe Voices and MCEDV staff, criminal justice stakeholders and community partners, and local experts in the domestic violence field. The day will be wrapped up with a workshop focusing on action steps and discussion around how attendees can participate in the effort to end domestic violence and increase offender accountability in Androscoggin, Franklin, and Oxford Counties.

Morning Breakout Sessions:

  • Strangulation Training: Learn about the dangers of strangulation and how to identify signs and symptoms of stragulation. Presented by Polly Campbell, Maine Director of Sexual Asault Forensic Examiner Program

  • High Risk Response Model Training: Learn about this model which is being utilized throughout the Tri-County area, the indicators of high risk, and what a High Risk Response Team meeting entails. Presented by: Beth Earle, Safe Voices' High Risk Response Coordinator and Samaa Abdurraqib, Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence's Justice System Advocacy Coordinator

  • Homicide and Domestic Violence in Maine Training: Learn about the Homicide & DV Review Panel Model in Maine and the ongoing trends of domestic violence homicides in Maine. Presented by Susan Fuller, former Maine Homicide and DV Review Panel Coordinator

Afternoon Breakout Sessions:

  • Strangulation Panel: Panel discussion focusing on trends and barriers victims, law enforcement, and prosecution face around stragulation in high risk domestic violence situations. Panelists Include: Polly Campbell, Maine Director of Sexual Asault Forensic Examiner Program; Jack Peck, Famington Chief of Police; Alexandra W. Winter, DV/SA specific ADA in Oxford County; and Rebecca Austin, Director of Advocacy at Safe Voices

  • Offender Accountability Panel: Panel discussion focusing on barriers around offender accountability; the Batterer Intervention Programming Model; and steps to improve the current system. Panelists Include: Angela Desrochers, Safe Voices BIP Coordinator; Tiffany Simoneau, DV Specialist Probation Officer Androscoggin County

  • Homicide & DV Panel: Panel discussion focusing on domestic violence homicides in Maine, the statistics and trends, and conversations around what needs to happen to decrease domestic violence homicides in our state and the Tri-County area. Panelists Include: Susan Fuller, former Maine Homicide and DV Review Panel Coordinator; Dave St. Laurent, Detective Franklin County Sherrif's Office; Beth Earle, Safe Voices' High Risk Response Coordinator

Anyone serving or working with victims and survivors of domestic violence and/ or addressing intimate partner violence, dating violence, and stalking at a systemic and legislative level in or surrounding the Tri-County area. Examples:
