Description

Course Description:
School-based occupational and physical therapists often work with students who have behavioral issues that impact their participation in therapy sessions in the school setting. Therapists are challenged to engage these students in therapeutic activities and work toward their IEP goals. To be most effective, therapists must be knowledgeable about behavioral principles, sensory processing and the role of OT/PT in working with students and team members. This can be challenging, but with proper knowledge and support, outcomes can be gratifying. This two-hour seminar is designed to familiarize school-based therapists with strategies to manage difficult behaviors.

Topics Covered Include:
-Behavior basics
-Is it sensory or behavior?
-The Role of OT/PT in Positive Behavior Supports
-Promoting collaboration with parents and team members
-Criteria for writing Daily Session Notes

Learning Outcomes:
-Identify successful strategies to manage difficult behaviors
-Identify strategies to support the sensory system
-Identify effective ways to collaborate with parents and team members
-Review challenging cases and establish treatment plans
