Treatment Strategies For Managing Challenges & Behavior in Remote Sessions
Event Information
About this Event
Course Description:
Covid-19 has shifted in person school based occupational and physical therapy to the remote setting. During this unprecedented time, therapists often work with students who have behavioral issues that impact their participation in therapy sessions in the remote school setting. Therapists are challenged to engage these students in therapeutic activities and work toward their IEP goals. To be most effective, therapists must be knowledgeable about behavioral principles, sensory processing and the role of OT/PT in working with students and team members. This can be challenging, but with proper knowledge and support, outcomes can be gratifying. This two hour seminar is designed to familiarize school based therapists with strategies/tips to manage challenges and difficult behaviors in remote sessions.
Topics Covered Include:
- Behavior basics
- Is it sensory or behavior?
- The Role of OT/PT in Positive Behavior Supports
- Promoting collaboration with parents and team members
Learning Outcomes:
- Identify at least two successful strategies to manage difficult behaviors that don't include limiting repetitive patterns of behavior.
- Identify two strategies to support the sensory system
- Promote two ways to collaborate with parents and other team members
