Event description

Description

In this skills-training CE workshop (3 APA Credits) participants will obtain a toolbox of evidence-based alcohol moderation and harm reduction strategies they can apply immediately with problem drinkers they see in office-based practice and other treatment settings.. Research shows that most heavy drinkers and others who drink "too much" are not alcoholics and that with proper guidance and support many of them can learn how to moderate their drinking within safer limits to avoid alcohol-related consequences and improve their overall health. An alternative to traditional abstinence-only approaches, harm reduction supports incremental change and individualized treatment goals that include less risky drinking, moderate drinking, and abstinence.

CE Credits

Participants who attend the workshop and complete an evaluation form will receive three (3) hours of APA-approved continuing education (CE) credits for psychologists, sponsored by the New Jersey Psychological Association (NJPA). The presentation is designated as Intermediate Level: some basic knowledge of the specific content is required.

Co-Sponsorship

This program is co-sponsored by NJPA and The Washton Group. NJPA is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. NJPA maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
