Description

Treating Co-Occurring PTSD and Addictions in Group

Presenter: Judy McLaughlin-Ryan, MFTMA

Course Description

This course will discuss and describe treatment research, challenges, methods, and procedures that may be utilized when working with co-morbid disorders of PTSD and Addictions. This course offers an expanded knowledge about group psychotherapy and community support as it applies to regulation and attachment issues. With a baseline of this course knowledge, the optimum goal is to improve treatment outcome and prognosis.

After the course attendees should have an increased understanding of Process/Support Group Psychotherapy for co-morbid Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Substance Use Disorders (SUD)/Addictions, through increased understanding of the diagnosis of co-morbidity of PTSD/SUD, Addictive Disorders. During the course attendees will be reviewing research and case examples; observing and participating in demonstrations of group psychotherapy for co-morbid PTSD/SUD, (in order to more effectively treat both disorders through the utilization of Group Psychotherapy and Community based group support).

Learning Objectives:

Attendees will be able to:

  1. The participant will be able to identify nine out of ten possible diagnostic features of PTSD and SUD/Addictions.

  2. The participant will identify with 90% accuracy dysregulation symptoms, which may occur, for those who are diagnosed with PTSD and Addictions (co-morbidity).

  3. The participant will be able to list at least, with 90% accuracy, four out of five attachment patterns that often need to be addressed during treatment phases for patients with PTSD and Addictions as it applies to group psychotherapy.

3 CEUs will be given for attendance.
