Description

This is for active volunteers Only! Dr. Adaobi Iheduru and Mia Powers of The Center for Victims of Torture will facilitate a training on trauma and torture in refugee children. The training covers the following:

  • Identify the types of experiences and situations that can be traumatic for children

  • Describe the three different types of trauma experiences

  • Identify the three types of stress that result from traumatic experiences

  • Explain the impact of trauma on children who have experienced maltreatment

  • Explain the relationship between a child’s lifetime trauma history and his or her behaviors and responses

  • Explain how traumatic experiences affect brain development

  • Explain how traumatic experience affect child development

  • Define psychological safety and its importance to children’s well-being

  • Identify strengths and protective factors that promote resilience among children who have been impacted by trauma

  • Identify potential strategies to support children and families who have been impacted by trauma

  • Strategies and specifically trauma-informed care strategies for schools and about how trauma specifically can effect learning and education and can be lessened in schools.
