Event description
Trauma Sensitive Care is a one-day foundational course for those serving children who have experienced trauma.

About this Event

This training is required of all staff and volunteers of Palmer Home for Children; however, local Social Workers, Teachers, Tutors, Counselors, Church and Community Volunteers, Foster Families, and any others who engage with at-risk children and families are invited to attend. This course is designed to increase awareness and understanding regarding the impact of trauma and chronic stress, as well as how to engage vulnerable children effectively and respond to their needs in helpful, sensitive ways.

This ONE DAY training is offered on Friday, November 8 and Saturday, November 9 from 8:30AM-4:00PM each day. When registering, please select the RSVP that indicates your preferred date of attendance.

Specific objectives include increasing participants' ability to:

1. Define and understand trauma and attachment.

2. Identify developmental alterations caused by trauma and compromised attachment; specifically, the impact on overall child development, including brain, body, belief and behavior.

3. Develop restorative environments characterized by Felt-Safety, Connection and Support in order to increase capacity for resilience in vulnerable children.

4. Enhance ability to recognize trauma related reactions and employ responsive strategies to help children feel safe and supported in healing relationships with trustworthy adults.

*Lunch and light snacks are provided. Please let organizer know of any physical or nutritional needs that may exist.
