These 45 minute sessions will help relieve your body of the effects of trauma and simultaneously build resilience. No experience required!

About this event

TRY stands for one of two things: Trauma Recovery Yoga because it'll help relieve your body of the physiological effects of trauma; and Total Resilience Yoga because you'll simultaneously recover/ build resilience. The practice is trauma-informed, removing any obvious triggers, and is built on a foundation of self-regulation. Participants usually feel a deep sense of calm and peace after the practice, and this is all science based, as we are intentionally soothing the nervous system.

The four main pillars of TRY are:

1. Presence: experiencing the present moment;

2. Empowerment: exercising choice;

3. Resilience: taking effective action;

4. Mindfulness: creating internal rhythms and positive affirmations.

Come as you are; just you and your mat. This practice is for all levels of mobility, and no experience is required.

About Me: My name is Brenda, and I've been teaching TRY for a couple years now. I began teaching in homeless shelters and to immigrant and refugees in Chicago, then in a refugee camp in Greece. I am now doing humanitarian work in Iraqi-Kurdistan and teaching the children's sequence at a local orphanage.

These classes are donation-based, pay what you can, and if you can't swing it right now, show up anyways! The self-regulation tools in this practice saved me, which I'll tell you more about in our time together. Part of my mission is sharing these tools with you!
