Event description

Description

An estimated 70 percent of adults in the U.S. have experienced a traumatic event at least once in their lives. Whether you're a psychotherapist, medical professional, coach, hands-on practitioner, parent, trauma survivor, or someone in relationship, the chances are high that you'll encounter trauma. Most of us don't have the skills to identify trauma or know what to do when it shows up.

Christine Donohue, MFT, SEP has 20+ years of experience dealing with trauma. Her training provides an introduction to trauma and offers tools to work with people who have a trauma history.

During our three days together, you will:

  • Gain proficiency of definitions, sources & impact of trauma on the autonomic nervous system.

  • Learn specific and effective ways to work with "window of tolerance", "affect regulation", "voo", "sympathetic over activation", "parasympathetic shutdown", "fight, flight, freeze", "island of safety".

  • Identify 5+ ways to support someone to move from overwhelm or underwhelm to a safe and regulated state.

  • Practice 5+ individual skills within a dyad and tryad sized group and develop your experiential knowledge of material.

  • Observe, or be a participant in, 4+ demonstrations of ways to apply trauma-based skills within a clinical setting and discussion of how to apply these skills in one's personal life.

  • Deepen your ability to become mindful and to embody a deep connection with your innate being, regardless of your trauma history.

This second and third days of training support you to gain a greater proficiency with this vast subject of trauma via a primary focus on live demonstrations by Christine Donohue, MFT, SEP and your subsequent experiential work within dyads and triads. After an initial overview of fundamental concepts and the discussion of at least ten interventions which support greater coherency and flexibility in the autonomic nervous system, Christine will demonstrate how she weaves these interventions within a relational, attachment-based dialogue ~ exploration ~ co-creation. Christine will debrief each demonstration by applying information, taught during day one, to the details of each mini-session.

In between each demonstration, you will have ample time and opportunity to explore these interventions within a small group. Throughout days two and three, you will participate in at least five 75-minute practice sessions followed by a Q&A and group discussion.

The last 1.5-hour segment of the third day will be an opportunity for you to drop deeply into a cellular embodiment and into the unknown within you. You will be held within a safe container to facilitate your unique spontaneous gestures of expression to unfurl. Christine, a previous Creative Arts Director at the Barbara Brennan School of Healing, will guide you into an internal healing dive within your own body and being that offers an opportunity and catalyst for creative self-expression.

The training structure weaves lecture, experiential, questions and discusssion.
