Event description

Description

The City of Seattle Human Services Department is offering free trainings in Trauma-Informed Youth Work. These trainings are designed for youth workers, teachers, counselors and community members to learn more about how trauma impacts youth behavior. This training provides resources and tools to develop a trauma-informed approach that honors the innate intelligence of young people's responses to trauma and oppression. The goal is to move adults from asking youth “what is wrong with you?” to “I wonder what conditions led to this behavior?”, so that adults can respond to youth in ways that build resilience, trust and empowerment.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the widespread impact of trauma and the interconnections between trauma and oppression at individual, collective and systemic levels;
  • Build a strengths-based understanding of how youth respond to and survive within traumatic conditions
  • Explore the importance of adult self-awareness and resilience in working with youth;
  • Share pragmatic tools and strategies to support youth to heal from and transform traumatic experience.
