The training provides awareness of trauma and its impact on a person’s ability to cope and manage in what may be perceived as dangerous environments. An approach of “what happened to you?” versus “what is wrong with you?” can lead to a more respectful and engaging relationship and is often a paradigm shift for service providers. We feel this training is imperative to the success of providers who work with people who have experienced trauma and are homeless. Trauma Informed Training for service providers is also supported by the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

A homeless system that is trauma-informed:

Realizes the widespread impact of trauma and understands potential paths for recovery;

Recognizes the signs and symptoms of trauma in clients, families, staff, and others involved with the system;

Responds by fully integrating knowledge about trauma into policies, procedures, and practices; and

Seeks to actively resist re-traumatization.

Who should attend: Direct service providers, supervisors of direct service providers and homeless grant/program managers

Training begins at 9:00 a.m. There will be a one hour lunch break, lunch on your own.
